Norman Jay was born on 6th of November 1957 in Notting Hill, London and was given the name Norman Bernard Joseph by his parents. His parents are Grenadian immigrants. In his childhood, Norman Jay used to listen to his father’s music collection, such as jazz, ska, Jamaica’s rock steady reggae and blues beat. His father also introduced little Jay with r &b soul which emerging the late 60’s black America music style.

He liked to travel around the country and love with football. He even wanted to be a football player and played for England.

His very first performance was at the age of eight at his cousin’s birthday party. He bought his first record and played it as a DJ. Right after that, he started to love to be a DJ and found his passion for music. At the age of 14, he played his music and showed his DJ ability at his friend’s party.

Jay worked very hard to earn money so that he can buy for clothes and supported his passion for music. He decided to fly to New York at the age of 19 and stayed with his relatives. In New York, he performed in some occasions and got so many chances to meet other DJ.

Soon after his back to British, he started to play his music in Notting Hill Carnival in 1980. He formed GOOD TIMES SOUND SYSTEM with his brother. He joined his first radio talk show at Pirate Radio KISS FM. He hosted a legal broadcast called “High on Hope” on KISS 100 FM on 1st of September 1990. Jay joined the BBC in April 1997 and has his own show, named Norman Jay’s Giant 45 Show. For his dedication and service in the music, Jay is nominated for many awarded and became a jury on some TV shows. His latest album, entitled Good Times London released in August 2008.
