I suppose it was always going to happen! The whole DJ Thing) In my family when the kids reached the age of 10 we were lucky enough to be bought a second hand bike I asked If I could have my own record player instead. We found one for sale in the local paper! Every Saturday morning I would be at WH Smith in Streatham buying my 7" singles.
I didn’t realize it was Soul Music I was into , and had been buying all of these years ,I just liked what I liked, and didnt worry about the genre. In my teens when I started hanging round with the guys from a Pirate Radio Station.
Quest FM in Balham became my whole Life for a couple of years! As it did so many others.
I later started working in a Night Club (The Studio in Streatham) which became my whole life for a few years. There I met my eldest daughters father , who was also big time into the music. We had lots of Vinyl (our own collections) and we purchased some Technic 1200s and another era began!!
Whilst with a group of friends at a New Years Eve Gathering, I said wouldn’t it be great if we hired a bar, all bought 10 friends along, and had a Party Playing Soul Music!! We would have our own club. We could call it “The Soul Network” (obviously as we are a network of people who love soul music)
From my promoting of Mix Tapes all over London, I had already started to build up a quite following of people who loved Soul music as we did, YES!!! There were likeminded people out there. They loved the tapes and were ready to purchase more as soon as they came out! I began to invite them to the parties!............................
That was 23 Years ago!!
I guess you can say, the rest is History!
