She’s had hits in 3 separate decades, in genres spanning Dance, House, Soul, and Disco, and has worked with musical luminaries as diverse as Diana Ross, Lou Reed, and Culture Club.
That’s right: 51st State Festival is absolutely delighted to announce that Jocelyn Brown will be lining up to play the main stage at this year’s festival!
Jocelyn will be replacing BeBe Winans, who unfortunately will be unable to perform due to circumstances beyond our control. A veritable dance music legend, Jocelyn will be stepping on to the Groove Odyssey outdoor main stage, and we know that with her on the mic we’ll ‘Keep on Jumpin’’ all night.
Jocelyn began her career at the summit of the music industry in the 1970’s, when she scored several huge hits as part of Patrick Adams’ ‘Musique’. Around this time she worked with a who’s who of the scene, also recording with the likes of Chic and Inner Life.
Since those early days, Jocelyn has gone on to establish herself as one of the most talented and soulful performers in popular music. Her solo debut, ‘Somebody Else’s Guy’, was a chart sensation, whilst hits like ‘Love’s Gonna Get You’, ‘Keep On Jumpin’’, ‘I’m Caught Up’ and ‘It’s Alright, I Feel It’ (with Nuyorican Soul) have become landmarks in the history of dance music. All the while Jocelyn kept up a truly breathtaking work-rate, releasing over 5 albums and countless singles whilst continuing to work with other artists in dance music.
For a number of years now, Jocelyn has been a Londoner; she knows the UK scene better than anyone, and we can’t think of anyone more suited to step on stage at 51st!
Jocelyn will be joining the likes of Masters at Work, Basement Jaxx, Todd Terry, and Dimitri From Paris at 51st, and we couldn’t be happier to have her playing for us in August. Until then just hold tight because when she plays, love’s gonna get you…
